Hearing loss is a serious condition that should not be ignored. Substantial research connects hearing loss with depression, diabetes, dementia and cardiovascular disease. Some research shows causation and some correlation, but all conditions have been linked to hearing loss.
If you are reading this blog, you already know about the effects of hearing loss on your lifestyle and health. For Better Hearing Month, encourage your friends and family members to follow through if they notice hearing problems. Don’t wait for years before getting a hearing test.
Also, if your friends or family members are over the age of 50 and have never had a hearing test, encourage them to go in for a baseline audiogram. At a younger age their hearing may be normal but in our noisy world mild hearing loss can occur at any age.
