At your office visit, we will ask for information regarding your insurance coverage. If you expect to use insurance at the visit you will need to have your insurance card with you. Most insurance policies do not pay for hearing aids or hearing aid related services but many pay for hearing testing. We are contracted with several insurance companies which means we are “in network” for those plans. We are happy to see you if we aren’t contracted with your plan but we will be considered “out of network.” The following is a list of insurance companies with whom we are contracted:
- Blue Shield
- United Healthcare
- Hill Physicians
Coverage for hearing testing and hearing aids depends upon your individual insurance plan. Each private health insurer has hundreds of plans with different benefits. It is impossible for us to have in depth knowledge of all plans. As a patient, it is your responsibility to know your plan.
We may be participating providers but that does not mean that payment for service is guaranteed. If we are not participating providers, we are happy to bill your insurance and balance bill you the portion that is not covered. If you have questions about what your insurance will cover, please call your insurance company before your visit. You may use our tax ID number, 26-0283358 to find out if we are participating providers for your plan.
In order for Medicare to cover hearing testing, you must be referred by a physician and we must have the written referral on file. You can ask your physician to fax the referral to us at 925-676-8420. We cannot ask for the referral for you, the request must come from you. Medicare and many Medicare supplemental plans do not pay for hearing aids.
